Quesada and the local area
Cuidad (meaning "the town of") Quesada is a development which was commenced in the early 1970's by the Quesada family, formerly farmers, and has been tastefully expanded to become a small town in its own right, complete with town hall. Residents include British, Scandinavian, German and other nationalities providing a good balance. English is widely understood in shops, restaurants and other establishments.
Orange and lemon groves abound in the area, and the fruit has so much more taste when it hasn't travelled far - you will be sure to be starting each day with freshly-squeezed orange juice!
Guardamar del Segura - A ten-minute drive will bring you to Guardamar, with its 11 kilometres of golden sandy beach and sand dunes, awarded the European blue flag for cleanliness. Choose the beaches by the promenade, watched over by lifeguards, or the more deserted dunes to the northern end, whichever is your preference. Free parking is plentiful.
Guardamar marina offers ctivities such as sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and diving, while the town itself has numerous shops, street cafés, bars and restaurants and, on certain days, a bustling market. The Reina Sofia park has pine groves, lakes and wildlife, and the Alfonso XIII park has particularly interesting vegetation.
Rojales - A typical small Spanish town, straddling the river Segura, has shops, restaurants and even night clubs, only a short taxi-ride away.
Elche - This ancient city is well worth a visit and has the largest palm park in Europe. It is also known as the shoe capital of Europe.
Salt lakes - are situated at Santa Pola and also at La Mata, and provide many opportunities to watch the plentiful pink flamingos and (apparently) one hundred different species of aquatic birds. La Mata nature reserve extends to 3,700 hectares and includes two salt lakes. This is a further location for a peaceful walk and to see wildlife. The walking and cycling routes around the lagoon are well signposted, and there are observation towers and rest areas.
Are you a Golfer? This is an ideal location for a golfing holiday - La Marquesa is on your doorstep, there are 3 more courses within a twenty minute drive and, if that's not enough, there are apparently about 45 courses within a one-hour drive, and more still being built! La Marquesa, literally two minutes down the road, is a par 72 course, has a driving range, and club and buggy hire is available.
Do you play bowls? Bowls is very popular among both British and Spanish on the Costa Blanca where, of course, it is an all-year-round outdoor sport. Wouldn't you like a chance to play in the sunshine for a week or two away from the British Winter? The Quesada Country Club has a thriving bowls section and guests are welcome. Woods can be hired, as can shoes if you wish.
House-hunting? If you are house-hunting in the Costa Blanca area, Quesada makes an ideal central base but, like us, you may love it so much you end up buying here! We are delighted with our villa, which we purchased in 2005 through an estate agent in Quesada, who were very professional and applied no pressure at all. If you may be interested in property purchase we would be pleased to let you have their details should you wish.
Markets - You will find at least one open-air market in local towns and villages on every day of the week. Leather products are, of course, a speciality, and markets are also a great source of fresh fruit and vegetables and a wide variety of other goods.
